On sunday 11th of May, it was Leon van Bon who won the last stage of the UCI 2.2 stage race, Tour de Kumano in Japan and about 10.000 kilometers from Japan it was Austalian Rhys Pollock who won the prestigious GP Möbelstadt Rück in Oberhausen , Germany.
Two nice victories for the Trek – Marco Polo Cycling Team. The team started this year with a victory of Chinese Fuyu Li in the very first race, the first stage of the Jelajah Tour of Malaysia. In the races that followed the team was close to a victory in some of the bigger races like the Tour de Langkawi (Malaysia), Giro del Capo (South-Africa) and Tour de Georgia (USA).
We hope that more victories are coming which can be expected with this great group of riders. We hope for a victory in the coming Tour of Japan were the team has selected the following riders:
Fuyu Li (preparing for the Beijing Olympics) and Liu Yi Lin from China, Jai Crawford from Australia, Genta Nakamura and Toyohiro Oka from Japan.
The Marco Polo Cycling organisation was active on more fronts this weekend: a delegation of the Cycling4All by Marco Polo Cycling was active in Ethiopia, working on building a better infrastructure in cycling sports with the Ethiopian Federation, the Adventure Team was in the Tour of Chalkidiki in Greece where Maikel Paas got 3rd in GC and club member Jos Kaal won the Tour d'Afrique, while collecting funds for Right to Play.
