The competition was hard with David George a former Commonwealth Games and Under 23 World Championships bronze medallist and James Perry who also won a bronze medal in the Under 23 World’s before as well as Jay Thomson the current African Time Trial Champion at the start.
But on the fast Trek team issue time trial bicycle it was Jaco who was the strongest on the undulating 40 km course with a 47,6 km/h average!

Jaco Venter:
“I was actually hoping to win the road race on Tuesday, but it didn’t work out that way. That made me very motivated for today,”

“Ag, it was one of those days where nothing went wrong. The new bike was great. I tried to pace myself properly and started maybe too fast because I suffered a little in the middle. But then I blitzed the last five kays.”

Barry Austin, Jaco’s coach:
“I think many people were surprised by Jaco’s win, but I was confident in his abilities because we’ve noticed that he rides a good time trial in stage races, especially after a few days of hard racing. All these guys raced the Giro del Capo last week and the national road race champs on Tuesday which means none of them were fresh and that’s were Jaco’s strength is.”
