With strong riding and a smart attack in the last kilometres it was Trek – Marco Polo rider James Spragg who won the 5th stage of the Tour of Thailand. With good teamwork with Chinese Xing Yan Dong in the break-away of 18 riders it was James who made the decisive move. A well deserved victory for his strong riding in this Tour of Thailand.

James Spragg: “I tried to get away a few times in the last 10km but was brought back. I had Xing with me in the break and he did a great job...

...working all day then following moves while I sat at the back of the group recovering and waiting for the right moment. I followed a move at 2km to go from a chinese rider who won south china sea then he looked back so I attacked him at 1300m to go and rode the last bit solo. It was really close at the finish thats why there are no time gaps but I had time to turn around see it was mine and put my hands up. A really great feeling and one I want to repeat soon.”

James already got a 4th place in stage 3 and a good attack all day in stage 2, just rolled in before the finish. He lost time in stage 1 after bad luck, when he was in the break-away that decided the GC in this Tour of Thailand.
Also the rest of the team rode strong and with Eric van de Meent being present in many break-aways, Xing Yan Dong staying with the strongest riders in this race, Ahmed Haidar Anuawar sprinting good with a 4th place in the final stage and Genta Nakamura doing good teamwork.

Now the team gets together in a trainingcamp and we are confident that there are more great results to come in the upcoming Jelajah Tour of Malaysia and the Tour of Singkarak (Indonesia).
