Rating 1.4/5 (5 votes)

New Zealander Chris Macic became 7th in the Ronde van Lexmond an extremely fast criterium in the Netherlands. He amazingly still got away for several laps in the last few kilometers of this 90 K race that was finished within 2 hours. A small group with some of the fastest criterium specialist of the Netherlands chased him down. And in the last lap a larger group also joined them for the sprint finish where he still managed 7th.
All other Marco Polo Cycling Donckers Koffie riders finished, for Ethiopians Alem Abebe and Binyam Bekele this was the first criterium race in European style. They showed character to stay with the fast peloton suffering hard because they were wasting a lot of power because of their lack of experience with this kind of racing. Into the race they learned a lot and towards the end they handled very well, especially Alem who even tried to mix in the final sprint, finishing 40th.
